June Road Rally to Spaceport America to See Space Craft Launch and Landing

June 29, 2023 @ 7:00 am 11:00 am

June 26 Update: Date is now Thursday June 29 at 7:00 AM at the T or C Supercharger. See updates on where to stay and where we will meet for dinner the evening before by RSVP for the event. See you there!

June 19 Update: The dates and time have changed to June 27 to 29 at 7:00 AM at the Truth or Consequences Supercharger so we can drive out to the Spaceport by 8:00 AM. This means that it can happen on any single date from June 27 to June 29. This is due to the fact that it is a spaceflight and it can be delayed because of unforeseen circumstances.

I will give updates as they become available on this website only. If you have not RSVP’d there please do so. This does require that you are a Tesla Owners Club of New Mexico member. You can get 4 free months of membership for signing up. You do need to create an account with a valid email and phone number. If you want to pay, you can do it through PayPal or send a check to our PO Box listed on the site. We will only communicate through the website through posts or comments or emails but will not contact you by phone or paper mail. Please stay tuned to the website for updates!

June Road Rally is to Spaceport America to see a takeoff and landing of a Virgin Galactic Space Ship. If members who want to drive from Albuquerque or Santa Fe to the Spaceport that day they should leave at 4:00 or 5:00 AM. Launch is expected to take place after 9:00 AM and landing about 10:30 AM.

This event will be witnessed by the club in the parking lot outside of the facility where we can see the runway where the plane with the space craft will take off, see the space craft fire up and take off and then see the space craft fly over the Spaceport several times before landing. Exciting!!

The alternative to driving the long distance is to stay overnight in Truth or Consequences with a 30 minute drive to the site. Please RSVP. See you there. More information to follow.

  1. We will stay overnight in T or C and drive on to Space Port Monday morning. It would be great if group met at Tesla super Charger in T or C at specific time Monday morning so we could drive on to Space Port together. I’ll look for updates as we get closer to departure time.

  2. Hi! I RSVP’ed for our family of four on the Meetup website as well as here. We will be staying overnight Sunday in T or C and can meet the Tesla group Monday morning. We will watch for those details.

  3. Vicki and I will drive to TorC Sunday do baths. Perhaps those staying overnight can get together for dinner. We may enter another event for the dinner so can collect rsvps

  4. I had already RSVPd but wanted to add 1 more person and didn’t see any way to do so except RSVP again with 3 people attending this time. Our grandson will join us.
    Thank you.

    • No problem. I just deleted your reservation for two persons and your reservation for three is still valid.
      Thanks for letting us know

      Dennis website manager.

  5. RSVP’d with four people including Monica, wife, Jono, son, Hazel, granddaughter and me. Looking forward to it. Staying in TorC the night before. Will get together with club for dinner at at Los Arcos Steak and Lobster at 6:00 PM. Meet at Supercharger at 7:00 AM the next day to drive to Spaceport America about 30 minutes away. Date is fluid. Originally set for June 26 but will probably slip to June 27 to 29. Will let everyone know as soon as I know. Look at posts for this.

    • Because of the fluid date I my family will not be able to attend so it will just be me.

    • We cannot make Tue or Wed but perhaps Thur. I removed my RSVP until we get a final date.

  7. Hi, due to the change in the Virgin Galactic launch dates I just cancelled the four RSVP’s for my family and me. We can’t swing a trip down to T or C in the middle of the week due to our busy schedules. We are so bummed we will miss seeing the launch and hanging with the Tesla group. Thank you for organizing the event. We hope to participate in other Tesla events in the future. Have a great time! We are pulling for a successful launch!

  8. Mark and Dan:
I have to stay in Albuquerque till late afternoon on the 28th and plan on driving to TorC late afternoon on the 28th, IF (big IF) the launch has not taken place. I can meet at the Supercharger at 7am on 29th morning.
I want to know where a good place to stay is in TorC. I have not spent a night there before and am unfamiliar with the town.
Marko mentioned dinner at Los Arcos Steak and Lobster. I would love to join if that is on the evening of the 28th.
My cell number is (505) 280-0997.
    Thank you.

  9. Make sure that you have RSVP’d here as a member so that you can get an email of the launch date.

  10. Vicki and I are scheduled for a soak at the riverbend from 3PM to 4PM on Wed 28th – the day before observing the flight. After that we will join others for dinner at the place and time Mark sets up for Wed 28th if that is an option. Then will meet at the chargers at 7AM on Thursday 29th – all assuming the flights stay set for Thursday. If not we will do another hot soak somewhere Thursday morning and may stay another night if can get a room so to do the observation on Friday 30th if rescheduled. If the flight is on time we could do a lunch on the 29th after the observation. If that is an option we can decide where after the observation.

I just got what they say is the last room at $50 at Motel 6 thru Expedia. The Charles Motel is a real funky old motel with hot soaks included. We have done that before but it is REALLY old an funky – but clean – so be warned. We normally stay there but Motel 6 was cheaper this time.

  11. I just checked the time and distance from the T or C Supercharger to Spaceport America and it is 44 minutes for 27 miles so we would like to leave shortly after meeting at 7:00 AM on June 29. There are 8 stalls so be sure you are charged up enough for the round trip and perhaps to keep your car cool while watching the event. So charge either the night before or early in the morning before meeting. See you there!!
